But remember, people, "bannerment" is not a word. I Want You Installment 2 of the Savage Garden Series Disclaimers: This is purely a work of fiction based on the television shows seaQuest DSV/2032 by Universal Television and Amblin Entertainment, created by Rockne O'Bannon. Song lyrics taken from Savage Garden's "I Want You" produced by Rough Cut Productions. Any resemblance to any other persons is purely conicidental....unless you're that receptionist at the hotel I stayed at this September :P Anyway, enjoy my second attempt at fan fic. The parts are much shorter because this story didn't turn out to be very long. And for those of you who think it's too lovey dovey....don't worry it gets much more exciting next time. I just wrote this one to tie up some of the loose ends from the last one, To The Moon and Back. And just a warning for the umpteenth time it get's a little adult....really it's not that bad but leigh said it was too bad for the normal list....and we know how higly I value her opinion :) "Anytime I need to see your face, I just close my eyes And I am taken to a place where your crystal mind and Magenta feelings take up shelter in the base of my spine Sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola." Having a near death experience is very hard for most people to handle, but when you're in the Navy you learn to deal with it. Nevertheless, despite all the composure Katie Hitchcock had, she always got sick when she knew the danger was over. Some times it took a few days, sometimes it took hours, sometimes a few minutes. But today it took about 30 seconds. Katie and Ben were walking down on the beach hand in hand having just made an almost unspoken agreement to reconcile. It was beautiful. Sun just begining to set, cool breezes, warm body holding you; it couldn't get much more perfect. Katie was safe, her crew was safe, her love was safe.... It was time to get sick. It was a sudden wave of nausea. Katie barely had time to break away from Ben and lean over on the sand before she started to throw up. Ben had been expecting that to happen. It always did. The first time he'd seen Katie like that throwing up he'd freaked. He figured new marriage, new job, stress, bulemia. Katie was a perfectly slim woman despite the fact that she ate like a pig. It would've made perfect sense. It took the verification of both Sarah and Callie to put Ben had mind at ease. Apparently there were quite a few dangerous accidents at the Hitchcock's dairy and they were both well aware of their sister's condition. Ben let go of Katie and left her alone, and walked a little bit away from her. Ben got sick just thinking about barf...seeing it.... well, sometimes he actually could barf at the sight of barf. He stared out at the open sea and tried to tune out Katie's heaves. The sky was just starting to turn colours. It was a pale pale blue, but where the sun hid behind some clouds there were touches of deep red. It reminded Ben of Katie; deep red hair, pale blue eyes. The ocean with it's gentle curves was her body clothed in a beautiful flowing blue dress. He could almost..... "Sorry about that." Katie said as she put her hand on Ben's back. You know how I am about these kinds of things." "Oh yeah sure." Katie stood behind Ben so she put her hand in front of his face and waved it up and down over his eyes. "Katherine Hitchcock calling Benjamin Krieg. Benjamin Krieg are you there? Over." "Oh. What?" Ben said as he turned around and faced Katie. "Sorry I was lost." "Good thing I found you." Katie said as she put her arms around Ben and held him for a minute. "God you're so beautiful, so cozy. I love to hold you." Ben replied as he leaned forward as if about to kiss Katie. "Um hon, no. I uh, well..." Katie said trying to figure out a discrete way to say "My mouth tastes like shit because I just threw up." "Oh yeah. Sorry. Hey want a soda?" Ben said as he walked over to a concession cart. "Yes please. Cherry Cola! Cherry Pepsi if they have it!" Katie called out as Ben ran up the hill. Ben's passion was beef. Katie's passions were twofold, chocolate and cherries, which made for some wonderful sundaes, including some wonderful human sundaes, which hopefully would be made very soon. "I don't need to try and explain; I just hold on tight And if it happens again, I might move so slightly To the arms and the lips and the face of the human cannon ball That I need to,I want to" Ben was never more in tune with Katie when he was alone with her, a fact which is not surprising. But, despite the fact that here it was Summer of 2018 and they hadn't really been a couple since almost 6 years earlier, In less than a half an hour Ben and Katie were out shopping together. Everything they owned had just gone down in smoke, they needed to go shopping if they ever wanted to change. It was strange too, there was no awkward silence, no cautious tension. "You know what I've always wanted." Katie said as the two officers still in uniform began to stroll down the boardwalk towards downtown where they could go to the mall. "I've always wanted like a black leather jacket. The kind that bikers wear. You know what I'm talking about? With all those straps and zippers?" Ben looked at Katie like he was about to either give her a jab in the ribs or a kiss on the neck. "Yes I know what you're talking about, but, if you hadn't said the word jacket I might be slightly confused. Straps, zippers and leather?" "Benjamin Krieg!" Katie shouted as she pulled off Ben's hat and threw it onto the beach. "You knew what I meant. I'm going to punish you now. You're going to have to go get that yourself... pig!" "Oh no! You mean I'm going to have to walk out there on the sand and pick something up? Actually do some work?" Ben said as he gently jammed Katie in the ribs, although his aim was purposely off and he ended up jabbing her in the breast. Ben walked off the board walk and bent over to pick up the hat which was still lying untouched on the light beige sand crystals. The sun was setting on them just right so that they had a tint of sparkle. Ben was enjoying the view when he felt a sharp object fly at his butt. "Hey? What the hell was that for?" Ben said as he stood up and picked up the small pebble that had just flown into his rear. "Sorry. I couldn't help it. Do you know how tempting it looked just sticking out like that? I would have gone over and pinched you or something but I didn't feel like doing that much work." "Katie, sometimes I think you're such a little girl at heart. Come here." Ben said as he grabbed Katie and swung her around in a circle. "My little girl." "My big boy." Ben knew exactly what big boy was in reference to. "Katie damn! I just got in trouble for talking about leather and straps now you fly sharp projectile objects at my butt and you start talking about my anatomy? Talk about double standard!" "Don't you know it. I practice reverse sexism when it comes to my man." Katie said as she kissed Ben. "I mean hello?" Ben said as he let go of Katie and put his hat back on. "It's 6:45. Do you know what time you came over and fell into my life again? 6:00. Now you tell me, seriously, are you kidding around with me? Is this a big "Let's see how far we can go before we make Ben go jump off a bridge kind of act?" Ben said as he pulled away from Katie. "No. If you think it's an act maybe you should just stay over there. Ben, it took all the faith I have to open up like this. If you're going to throw my attempts at putting this love back together in my face.... well...don't even want to try!" Katie exclaimed as she pulled her sleeves down from around her elbows and wrapped her arms around her waist. "Katie, I'm sorry. I didn't mean that the way it came out. I don't know what I was saying, but it wasn't meant in jest. I mean look at us. Anyone who walked down past us would think "Look at those two love birds. How cute." But is that who we really are? Are we two love birds or are we two dreamers? Look at us. We're moving so fast." Ben asked as he pulled Katie back into his arms. "You're cold." "You think I don't know that you idiot? You think I don't see that every night when I wash my face and see a blank look staring back at me? You think that I like the way I am? I don't. I hate it. I loathe it. I kept wishing that I could change. I saw an opportunity and I launched into it. I want to be the way we were before things came tumbling down inward on us. I want what we had. Maybe we are silly crazy love birds, and I know for sure that we are dreamers. But dreams come true don't they? They used to... they did once." Gently Katie slipped away, trying to escape Ben's embrace, but soon found out that his arms were too tight around her, so she settled with leaning her head into Ben's shoulder. She used to do that so often back at the Academy. Bobby used to tease her that she was surgically connected to Ben's shoulder. They'd walk side by side her leaning onto him, him with his arm around her waist all around campus and the small city. "Katie I meant you're cold. You're body is cold. You're shivering dear." Katie slipped out a small "Oh." "But, I never thought you were cold cold. Shy and boring maybe, but not cold. Now come on. We're supposed to be shopping, Remember?" Ben said as he pinched Katie's cheek to get her to smile, which she did. "Yeah. Sorry. I'm emotional. Be careful what you say." Katie said as she turned around and started walking next to Ben. They walked down the boardwalk in complete silence. By the time they got to the mall they'd still said nothing, but there was no tension. No uncomfortable silence. Just one woman with her head in the clouds and one man with his head in the gutter. "Hey," Ben said as he opened the big glass door of the mall and held it open for Katie. "If you can't learn to do it well, learn to enjoy doing it badly." "What?" Katie said as she extended her hand and grabbed Ben's as the walked into the bustling promenade. "I meant if we can't get this silly love thing right, we should at least have fun screwing it up. So let's just do it and have fun." Katie cracked a smile and a small laugh. "I always have fun screwing you up. You're forgetting 2 somethings though. One, we're in public. Two, we're wearing everything we own." "All right, all right, back to the business at hand.." Ben said as he cast Katie a sideways glance. "Even though you're wearing a tattered uniform, and you've got this weird sunburn happening on your cheeks, I've never wanted you more." Katie kissed Ben, not trying to be discrete at all. She grabbed him and held him and kissed him as hard and as passionately as she could. "Me neither, I love you." "I'm the kind of person who endorses a deep commitment Getting comfy getting perfect is what I live for But a look, then a smell of perfume It's like I'm down on the floor And I don't know what I'm in for" "They're too small Ben. There is no way I am squeezing my butt in those jeans. Not on your life." Katie said as she eyed the blue jeans Ben was holding up. "They're stretchy see?" Ben said pulling at the waistband and holding them up around Katie. "Come on give them a try. It won't hurt." "Fine." Katie said as she gave Ben an exasperated look and marched over to the dressing room. Katie walked out a few minutes later wearing her red turtleneck and the jeans. "Now what did I tell you?" Ben said as he got up and walked around Katie admiring the pants. "They are way to tight Ben." Katie said as she walked up to the 3 conjoined mirrors that are always in dressing rooms. "I might as well be wearing leggings." "Oh come on Katie, they fit like a glove, just like I said they would. You're gorgeous, flaunt it!" Ben said as he stood behind Katie admiring her. Katie turned around looking at her reflection in the mirror. "Well they are supposed to be tight. And they do fit, of course they leave very little to the imagination." Katie sighed and turned to Ben who was obviously in love with her, and the pants. "All right I'll humor you. The things I do for my husband." As soon as those words, "my husband", came out of Katie's mouth she knew it had been a slip. It was hard to remember that they weren't divorced. It had been such a fun evening that it felt like Ben was her husband again. "I wish." Ben said under his breath not realizing that Katie was in ear shot. "I wish so too." Katie turned around and saw the sad look on Ben's face. "Come here." Cautiously Ben took a few steps forward to where Katie was standing. Katie reached out for his hands and placed them on her butt. The look on Ben's face changed almost instantly to a giddy excitement. "You like?" Katie said as she pushed her body up against Ben's. "Bet you really like that. Warm tender kisses on your neck." Katie whispered in Ben's ear as she gently kissed his neck. Of course Ben liked it. Feeling the woman he loved actual reciprocate that love was all he could ever ask for. She felt so good.Even though she still had some charred places on her uniform she still smelled good. You would've thought she smelled like ashes, but as usual she didn't. "Bet you wish I'd keep going don't you?" Katie whispered again as she gave him a gentle kiss on the mouth and turned away to go back into the dressing room. "Hey wait a sec!" Ben shouted from the outside the women's dressing room. "Hey that was not fair toying with me like that! You tease!" "Like I said reverse sexism is the best thing ever created." "Conversation has a time and a place In the interaction of a lover and a mate But the time I'm talking, using symbols using words Can be likened to a deep sea diver who is swimming with a raincoat" Three hours is a long time to get to remember a person who you've forgotten about. By that time Ben and Katie had some quality time shopping for everything they thought they needed, clothes, makeup, shoes, lingerie, jewelry, perfume ect... They'd both come to the realization that they were still as in love as they were the day they'd gotten married. There was no need to affirm it with words. Of course no matter how in love they were Katie was still not about to let the rest of the crew find out about what the two of them were attempting to do. Technically they were still on duty and would be until tomorrow afternoon, and until then Katie was not going to let her reputation be marred. If it took an extra room to convince people that Katie and Ben were "not an item" Katie was more then willing to dish out an extra 100$. Of course the U.E.O. would've put them up at the H.Q, but Ben and Katie knew all about staying on base. The rooms were small, the beds were lumpy, the walls were thin. Most of the crew were splurging staying at the Hilton and Katie and Ben were following suit. The 2 of them loaded all their bags into the elevator and pushed the button to the 50th floor, the honeymoon suit. "Here." Katie said as she plopped 2 keys in Ben's hand. "What's this? I thought we were staying together, in the honeymoon suit." Ben took the keys. "Guess I goofed." Katie then broke out into a huge smile as she pulled another set of keys out of her pocket. "These are my keys. Keys to my honeymoon suit." Katie dangled the keys in front of Ben's face. "You're more then welcome to join me, but, if you don't want to..." She said as she pulled the keys away. "Katie are you actually planing on spending the night alone, knowing that I'll be in my room alone, doing apart what we could be doing together?" Ben inched towards Katie. "Do you really want to do that? Are you sure that's what you want?" Katie shot Ben a glance. "You should know the answer. I refuse to respond to that." She said with a smirk on her face and a blush on her cheeks. Ben wasn't that stupid. He knew when Katie wanted him. "Come stand a little bit closer Breathe in and get a bit higher. You'll never know what hit you When I get to you." Katie waited in silence casting her gaze up and down Ben's body as they encompassed floor after floor, Ben did the same. Whenever their eyes met it was pure giggles from both of their mouths. Ben didn't get off on the 20th floor. He stayed with Katie all to the top. They they both carted off the luggage in silence, but, when they saw what kind of a room they had they both echoed a synchronized wow. "I asked for the honeymoon suit, but this? This is some kind of an orgy suit!" Katie said trying to stifle the laughter. The room actually wasn't all that abnormal except the fact that the bed was about 1.5 times bigger then a king sized bed in every dimension. Top it off it was covered in pillows and big billowy comforters. "Damn Katie, You'd better want me in this room because sex or no sex I am sleeping in that bed tonight." Ben said as he ran over and flopped on it. "Heaven." "Oh it's heaven huh? Well then Mr. Content'N Happy you can sleep with your bed tonight. I'll sleep on the couch." "You're turning up this for a couch?" Ben said as he lay on his back sprawled out on the bed. "We're much more appealing." "I wouldn't mind pealing back some layers on both of you." Katie replied as she walked over to the bed and pounced on top of Ben straddling his chest and unzipping his shirt.... when the phone rang. "I've got to get that Ben, it could be Jonathan or the captain. They told me I could go but who knows, after all we have bad luck." Katie called as she popped up from the bed and ran over to the vidphone. "Hello?" She said as she turned on her screen to see the young teenage receptionist. "Miss. Hitchcock? There's a message here for you from a Mr. Krieg. Do you want to come get it or should I read it to you?" The girl said as she flashed a small slip of paper on the screen. Katie cast a sideways look at Ben. "Yes please, would you?" Obviously Ben had left it there while she was unpacking the car. "Sure. Says... wow girl you're gonna flip. It says that, and I quote, "Katherine Marie Hitchcock will you marry me? Forever you're love, Ben." Wow girl how sweet! You lucky thing. You'd better say yes, unless he's some kinda sicko pervert." "Believe me I know exactly what to say. Thank you." Katie said as she turned off the phone and ran back over to the bed like a child running towards the Christmas tree on Christmas morn. "You're serious?" Katie said as she lay down next to her love and locked in on his eyes. "You're really truly serious?" "Yeah." Ben reluctantly replied. "I mean we don't have to get married right away but I figured since I thought you were trying to make things the way they were that we'd might as well fit that piece of the puzzle together." "This." Katie said as she put her hand on Ben's shoulder. "This from the guy who was telling me not 4 hours ago that we were moving a little fast." "Oh. I see." Ben got up and walked over to another corner of the bedroom. "I just thought it would be cute. I thought it would help us get over the awkward hurdle. Sorry. It's just you were sending these signals like you wanted more then another chance, like you wanted the same chance we had before. Like you wanted the story book romance back. I just thought you'd like it." Ben had pulled the engagement ring he'd given Katie all those years before off of his chain around his neck and held it in his ever clenching fist. "If all you want is the externalalites of a relationship, if you just want to play house when you're back from you big wig gig on that command that's fine with me. I'll settle for anything I can take, as long as it's you." Ben felt the sharp point of the 1.5 carat solitaire tear drop diamond cutting into his hand. It was almost fitting that it was a tear shape; all he wanted to do was cry. "If you just tried on the idea you might like it. It couldn't hurt? We do love each other, right?" "Yes." "Katie, yes what? Yes we love each other or yes you'd try?" Ben asked as he turned around and faced Katie who had snuck up behind him. "Yes I'll marry you." Katie responded. "But...but..." Ben stuttered. "You said that we were moving to fast." "No I didn't. I said that you said that we were moving kind of fast. You just chose not to listen to what I said." Ben took Katie in his arms again. "So that means someday soon you'll walk down the isle with me again?" "It sure dose. Just tell me when you're ready." "Me? What about you? What about when you're ready?" "Geez Ben!" Katie half shouted. "You're being too careful. Stop trying to build a wall that isn't there. And to answer your question, I was ready 35 hours ago when I got your letter. All I needed was a little push back close to you." Ben slowly sipped the ring back onto Katie's finger. "You know I bet we're the only people who get engaged in a honeymoon suit." Ben picked up on the way Katie slightly pushed her chest against Ben's. He responded by gently picking her up by the waist so she could wrap her legs around him. Together Ben carried her back over to the bed and laid her down. Careful unzipping her jumpsuit and slipping off her turtle neck Bent over and whispered in Katie's ear, "I missed you. I know this sounds bad, but I missed making love to you." "Ben there's nothing wrong with that. Making love is one of the highest forms of expression. When you combine wonderful things like passion, pleasure and love all in one unique act you not only create just about the best physical thing in the world, you bring two people closer and closer each and every time. But that's only if there's love. Now you sit here and tell me you don't love me and then I'll be mad. But if you say you missed that expression of your feelings, I can't help but love you more for it, and to agree." Ben caressed Katie's chest "I love you Katie." "Ooh, I want you I don't know if I need you But, ooh, I'd die to find out Ooh, I want you I don't know if I need you But, ooh, I'd die to find out So can we find out?"
