Enjoy! ========================================================================== Far and Away By Sarah Lubin CHAPTER ONE Lucas fiddled with a computer chip as Ben steered the probe. Ben turned around to Lucas and groaned. "What are you doing?" asked Ben. He sounded angry. Lucas looked up and brushed a piece of hair out of his eyes. "I'm fixing a computer chip." Ben turned his head back and saw that the probe was heading straight towards a cliff. He swerved and the probe flipped over. Lucas hit his head against a sharp object and let out a cry in pain. "Dammit!" screamed Lucas. He crawled back to his seat and touched his brow. Kristin Westphalen ran out of the supply area of the probe. She looked at Ben. "What did you do? The probe flipped over!" Ben frowned. "Okay, doc, would you rather be cliff side pancakes or flip over in a probe?" Kristin grunted with anger. She looked at Lucas and sat next to him. "Are you alright, Lucas?" Lucas shook his head. He took his hand off of his brow and saw blood on it. Lucas groaned and began to place his hand back on the wound. Kristin took his hand and tilted his face to the light. "Where's the first aid kit?" "In the back, second drawer." yelled Ben. Kristin ran in back and brought a box. She sat back down and took out some rubbing alcohol. Kristin dabbed some on a piece of cotton and rubbed some on Lucas' brow. He winced and bit his lip. "I hope Ben isn't this bad at driving." Kristin blurted out. She smiled at Lucas and noticed he was a little shaken up. "Are you okay?" Lucas nodded. "Yeah, I guess." He closed his eyes for a moment. "It just shook me up a little." Kristin placed a bandage over the cut. "What shook you up, Lucas?" "Ben's little marine flip." Lucas said loudly. "I don't think the army taught you to that, Ben." "Shut up or I'll leave you both in a broken escape pod!" yelled Ben. Kristin laughed as she closed the box. "Did it remind you about your accident with Hitchcock and Ford?" Lucas nodded. He looked ashamed and dirty. "That's something to be scared about. But that's over, right?" Kristin slipped an arm around Lucas' shoulder. Lucas nodded and rested his head on Kristin's shoulder. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Kristin. "Or you can talk to Nathan, the guy who listens only to himself." Lucas smiled. "I prefer not to....is that okay?" He looked up at her. "That's fine, Lucas." She kissed his forehead. "How long 'til we get to that depot, Ben?" "Another two hours....we'll arrive at midnight." Ben yelled. Kristin rubbed Lucas' shoulder. "Get some rest, Lucas. If Nathan calls, I'll wake you up." "But..." Lucas began to protest. "Lucas." said Kristin firmly. She stood up and placed a pillow at the end of the bench. Lucas groaned and laid down on the bench. He frowned with frustration. A blanket covered him and Kristin patted his shoulder. "Goodnight, Lucas." Kristin turned off the light in the room and walked into the control room. She closed the door. "He's asleep?" asked Ben. He kept his eye straight ahead. "Not really. He's shaken up by that flip this probe did." Kristin fastened her seat belt. "I didn't mean to." Ben mumbled. "Honestly." "I know." Kristin smiled. "He also mention that accident." "What accident?" Ben paused. "Oh....that accident with the...oh yeah, I remember." "He won't talk about it." Kristin replied. "Why?" "He, quote, unquote, prefers not to." "Oh...Lucas is like that." "Don't remind me." The room was silent for about five minutes. Ben cleared his throat. "So, you think he's ashamed of it or something?" "Maybe." "Maybe? What is that suppose to mean?" "Maybe his misses Randy...." "Ryon. Ryon with an 'O', not an 'A'." Ben paused. "Where did you guys send her anyways?" "Water station Mock 5." Kristin said. She yawned. "You should sleep. It's been a long day, doc." Ben suggested in a low voice. "I'm fine." Kristin stretched her arms. The door opened. Lucas stood in the doorway. He had a weird expression on his face. "Lucas, stop goofing off and go back to sleep." said Ben. He motioned him to leave the control area. Lucas mimicked Ben and went back into the other room. The door closed. Kristin laughed softly. "Kids, they never listen." Ben mumbled. "That's why I don't have any." CHAPTER TWO Nathan heard a buzzing sound next to him. He woke up out of his light sleep and groaned. "What?" "Krieg is on." said Tim O' Neill. "Fine, put him through." Nathan wrapped his bathrobe belt around his waist. A picture of Ben appeared. "Yes?" "Just reporting in, Captain." "Good. How's Lucas?" Nathan yawned. "He's asleep right now. Kristin was trying to wake him up so he could say hello, but he's out to town tonight." Ben laughed. A crying noise came from behind Ben. "What was that?" "Nothing, sir." Nathan smiled. "Did you dock?" "Yes. We were planning to spend the night inside the depot, but neither Kristin or I can pick Lucas up and carry him. So, I guess we all spend the night in the docking tunnel." Nathan laughed. "Just don't get anyone killed." Ben saluted Nathan. "Yes sir!" The screen went black and the UEO logo appeared. Nathan crossed his arms and leaned by in his chair. ************* Ben looked at Kristin who was comforting Lucas from a nightmare he had had during the early hours of the night. "He's okay...right?" asked Ben. He knelt beside Kristin. Kristin held Lucas in her arms and smoothed his hair. "Lucas is not okay. Get some water." "In a cup or a cone?" asked Ben, jokingly. He stood up. "What do you think!" yelled Kristin. "I guess a cup." Ben ran into the supply room. Kristin rocked Lucas back and forth. Ben came back with a cup of water. He handed it to the doctor. She held it up to Lucas' lips. He drank a little and buried his face into Kristin's shoulder. He sobbed loudly and Kristin continued to calm him down. Ben stood up and contacted the seaQuest. ************* Katherine Hitchcock woke up and looked at her watch. She groaned. It was after midnight and the bridge was paging her at this hour. "Ben's on the line." said Tim. Katherine groaned again. "Put him through." Katherine stood up and stretched. "You look very sexy in those boxers, my dear." said Ben with a smile on his face. Katherine frowned. "Shut up!" Ben laughed. "Sorry." "So, what's wrong? Computer malfunction, broken engine, not enough oxygen?" Katherine sat on the bed and yawned. "No." "Then what?" Katherine brushed a piece of hair out of her eyes. She heard a sobbing noise. "What was that?" "Do you know how to calm down seventeen year olds?" asked Ben. He rolled his neck. "What's wrong with Lucas?" Katherine shot up and ran to the screen. "What happened? Is he okay?" Ben looked to his right and turned to Katherine. "He had a nightmare about the accident and he's been carrying on for the last half hour." "Did you try a glass of cold water?" Katherine stood up and began to pace the room. "Yes...didn't work." Ben rolled his neck, again. "Rocking him to sleep?" "Tried it." "Didn't work?" "Yup." "Singing to him?" "Tried that...didn't work. I think it made him cry even more." Katherine smiled. "How about giving him velum and calling me in the morning?" "We don't have any." Katherine nodded. "How about letting him cry himself to sleep?" "It's been a half hour, Kath!" "Well, excuse me." The sobbing had stopped. Ben looked at Kristin. "So?" "So what?" "What happened?" "He stopped. Isn't that obvious?" Katherine frowned. "Goodnight." She turned off the screen. CHAPTER THREE Lucas woke up and rubbed his eyes. His lashes were still wet. Kristin walked by him and backed up. "You're up." said Kristin as she knelt down next to Lucas' bedside. "He's up?" Ben shouted from the other room. He came out with a toothbrush in his hand and foam in his mouth. Kristin looked at Ben and gasped. "Good God, Ben! Get yourself cleaned up this instant!" Lucas giggled. "What time is it?" "Time for all of us to get ready to explore this place and see why Bridger sent us here." said Ben from the other room. "Don't pay attention to him, Lucas." Kristin replied. Lucas smiled. "I better get ready, huh?" Kristin nodded. "Don't take to long or Ben will get antsy." "I won't." ************* "Get that out of my face!" yelled Ben. He grabbed the flashlight from Lucas and frowned. Lucas remained silent. He looked around the first level of the depot. "I'm checking out the third floor." "Be careful, Lucas." said Kristin. Lucas nodded and walked down a corridor. "Meet me up there in two hours." "Okay." called Ben. Lucas turned on his other flashlight and walked into the dark. Water dripped and the air was cold. He heard a ping and swung around. "Hello?" Lucas' voice echoed. He shrugged and continued his way to the third floor. ************* Kristin and Ben bumped into each other and screamed. It was the eighth time this had happened. "Will you stop that!" Ben was frustrated with Kristin. Kristin groaned. "I can't find Lucas." "Well, we both have something in common. Shall we make dinner plans?" asked Ben. Kristin rolled her eyes. She looked down the corridor. "We haven't gone there yet." "Dr. Westphalen?" It was Nathan. Kristin picked up the PAL. "Yes?" "How's everything going?" asked Nathan. "We can't find Lucas." Ben looked at Kristin. "Don't tell him that!" "Some..." "Give me that...captain? It's me." Ben said. "I know Ben." Nathan sounded a little annoyed. "Go find Lucas." A footstep came from behind Ben and Kristin. They turned around. "Lucas!" "You found him?" Nathan said. "Yup." Ben looked at Lucas for a moment. "Are you okay?" Lucas dropped to the ground and Kristin gasped. Ben knelt down and checked for Lucas' pulse. He found a small dart buried inside of Lucas' neck. "Doc, take a look at this." Ben whispered. He shined his flashlight on the dart. Kristin looked at the dart. She took the PAL from Ben. "Sir, have a nurse run a scan about a red dart filled with chloroform." "Yes, Kristin. This the captain signing out." Ben began to take the dart out of Lucas' neck. Kristin grabbed his hand. "Don't. We might do something that can make matters worst." Kristin rolled Lucas to his back and looked down the corridor. "Let's carry him down that way." Ben nodded. He slipped his arms under Lucas' upper body and Kristin grabbed his legs. They carried him down the corridor and into a room. The room had a bed and a table. The two adults laid Lucas on the bed and elevated his head. "So now what?" asked Ben. He sat on the table. Kristin turned Lucas' head and looked at the dart. "Strange. How could someone shoot a dart at Lucas. No one's been here for twenty years." Ben heard a creaking sound and the table broke. He landed on his right wrist and winced with pain. Kristin stood up. "Are you okay?" She helped Ben up. "I'm fine." Ben shook Kristin's hand off of his arm. A dart whizzed past his head and hit the wall. "Not again!" He grabbed Kristin and pulled her to the floor. Darts flew all round and a few more hit Lucas in the leg and arm. They stopped and Ben looked up. "Hello?" asked Ben. He helped Kristin to her feet. Ben looked around the room and saw a figure pulling out the darts from Lucas. He ran over to the figure and grabbed it's hand. "Let go of me!" yelled the figure. It was a girl. Ben shook her and threw her against the broken table. "What are you thinking?" The girl rubbed her head and glared at Ben. She took off her hood and moaned. Kristin walked up to her and helped the girl back up. "Sorry about that, young lady. Ben is tends to be over protective of his fellow crew members." The girl nodded. She looked at the badge on Kristin's coat. "SeaQuest?" "Yes. You heard of the ship?" asked Kristin. "Of course. My sister is on that ship." The girl looked at Ben. "You may know her very well, Benjamin." Ben swung around and gasped. "Oh my God!" CHAPTER FOUR Ben sat by Lucas' feet. He watched Kristin wrap up his ex-sister in-law's arm. It had been shot with a laser about a week ago. "So, Liz...how's life?" Liz shrugged. "It's hard and endless." She winced. "How about you?" "Boring on some occasions." He stood up and walked over to Kristin and Liz. "So, how's the arm?" Liz glared at her ex-brother in-law. "I wonder? It's being wrapped up by a doctor and I'm in pain." She looked at her arm. "What can we figure from that, Benjamin?" Ben turned red. "Will you stop calling me that!" he bellowed. Liz shrugged. She stood up and moved her fingers on her injured arm. "Thanks." Kristin nodded and motioned Ben to follow her. "So, what are you going to do?" "What does that mean?" Ben leaned against the wall. "Are you taking her back to the seaQuest?" asked Kristin. She looked at Liz for a moment. "Funny, she doesn't look like Katherine." "She took after her father." mumbled Ben. "Of course I'm taking her back. We can't leave a sixteen year old here." "I'm seventeen years old, Ben." Liz sat on the bed and took out the dart from Lucas' neck. "Whatever, Liz." He looked at Liz. "What are you doing?" Liz threw the dart at the wall. "Taking that dart out of your friend's neck." Ben smirked. "Fine. We need to know thing before we go." Liz nodded and smiled. "What?" "Is there anyone else here?" asked Kristin. Liz shook her head. She smiled at Ben. "Can we talk for a moment when we get back to the seaQuest?" Ben nodded. He was surprised that his ex-wife's sister was in an abandon depot. She looked weak and lonely. "We have one problem....Lucas." Kristin said in a low tone of voice. Ben almost forgot. He walked over to the young man and slipped Lucas' arm over his shoulder. Kristin took the other. "Liz, take those guns and follow us." ************* Kristin covered Liz with a blanket and walked into the control room. Ben had the probe on auto pilot. He turned his head and looked at Kristin. "Hello." Ben whispered. He looked into the dark next door. "How's the kids?" Kristin sat in her chair and buckled the seat beat. "They are fine." She crossed her arms. "So, Elizabeth Hitchcock is your ex-sister in-law." Ben nodded. "I'll tell you happened....if you want." Kristin shrugged. "Depends on you." She brushed a piece of hair out of her face. "Her full name is Elizabeth Sarah Hitchcock. She was named after Katherine's grandmother, Elizabeth Bishop." Ben paused. "Liz was very rambunctious when she turned eleven and she went off to boarding school in London. The, she went to college at age thirteen." "Why was she in a depot?" asked Kristin. "I have no idea." Ben yawned. He heard the communicator beep. "Yes?" "Hello Ben." It was Katherine. She probably had a nice, bright smile on her face. "Have enough sleep?" "Shut up, Kath." Ben growled. "What do you want?" "How was the depot?" asked Katherine. "It was cold, dark, damp, and we found your sister inside." Ben mumbled. "My sister!" Katherine sounded surprised. "What was Liz doing in a depot?" "I dunno." Ben crossed his arms. "Should I tell Nathan?" Katherine said suddenly. "Go ahead. While you are at it, tell him Lucas has gotten himself in trouble, again...." "Again!" Katherine yelled. "You aren't joking? What now?" "He got himself a nice, red dart in his neck, arm, and leg." Katherine was silent. "Sounds fun. Anything else?" "Yes. Tell Nathan I refuse to take Lucas on another trip with me. I was up half the night because of him with all that carrying on, bad mouthing, and trouble he causes!" "Whatever." Katherine was gone. Ben crossed his arms and looked at Kristin. "What?" He heard Lucas groaning in the next room. "Lucas wasn't that bad, Ben." Kristin took off her belt and went into the other room. Kristin peered into the dark room and looked at Lucas. He was rubbed his neck and looked at Kristin for a moment. "Don't tell me what happened. I don't want to know until I have my own fleet." Lucas said under his breath. He moved his legs so Kristin could sit down. "That chloroform wore off quickly." Kristin took Lucas' pulse. "Your pulse rate is normal." "So what if my pulse rate is normal." Lucas said. He looked at Kristin. "Is there something I should know?" "Yes...actually....there is. About three or four things you should know. One, you were shot with a dart." "I could have told you that." Lucas mumbled. He looked at Kristin. "Two, Ben doesn't want you coming on anyone more trips with him. Three, Hitchcock's sister was in the depot." Kristin paused. "Four, you are going straight to the infirmary as soon as we get back." Lucas groaned and looked at the person across from him through the dark. "Is that Katie's sister?" Kristin nodded and stood up. "You need rest, Lucas. It's been a long two days." Lucas rested his head on the pillow and fell asleep. CHAPTER FIVE Nathan walked down the hallway and opened the door into Lucas' room. He looked inside and saw Lucas fast asleep on his bed. A book rested on Lucas' knee and the light on the nightstand was still on. "Lucas, Lucas, Lucas." Nathan mumbled as he turned the light off and took the book from Lucas' knee. "I knew I could find you here." Ben said softly. He stood in the doorway and watched Nathan cover Lucas with a blanket. "Well, I heard that Lucas was back in his quarters. I came to see how he was doing, but I guess the chloroform is still doing wonders." Nathan walked out in the hallway and began to head towards the bridge. "So, how's Hitchcock's sister?" "You mean Liz?" Ben asked. "She's fine and asleep like I should be." Nathan laughed. "So, what are she going to do about Liz?" Ben stopped. "Katie was hoping you would let her stay with her on the seaQuest." Nathan paused for a moment. "Do we have enough room?" Ben nodded. "One room left for a crewma....woman." Nathan continued to walk. "Get Liz some clothes, a uniform, and then get Lucas to show her around." "Thank you, sir." ************* Katherine walked slowly into the infirmary. She carried a bouquet of roses. A finger tapped her shoulder. Katherine turned around and smiled at Manilow Crocker and Jonathan Ford. "What are we doing?" asked Jonathan. He touched a rose and Katherine slapped his hand. "I'm going to see my sister." Katherine continued her way. "Hey, wait up!" yelled Manilow. He grabbed Katherine's shoulder. "What?" yelled Katherine. "I know where her room is." replied Manilow. "Well...so do I." Katherine continued down a hallway. Jonathan grabbed her shoulder. "How come you are going the wrong way?" Jonathan smiled and lead Katherine to Liz's room. ************* Liz sat up in her bed as she saw Katherine and two men come into the room. Katherine smiled and walked up to Liz. "How's my college graduate?" asked Katherine as she hugged Liz. "I'm fine." Liz looked at the men with her brow raised. "Who are they?" Katherine laughed. "That old guy is Chief Manilow Crocker and that is Commander Jonathan Ford." Liz nodded. She looked at her arm. "You want to heard the whole story?" "I sure would." said Ben as he walked into the room. He looked at Katherine, Manilow, and Jonathan. "Is this a party for the new residence on the seaQuest?" Liz shrugged. Ben sat on the bed next to Katherine. "Well, you can continue." Katie patted her sister's knee. Liz smiled. "Well, our research probe crashed on the cliff side and I was the only one who had stayed in the depot with this guy named Simon. They have some traps inside and I, unfortunately, found one that gave me this laser wound." She brushed a piece of brown hair out of her face. Katherine looked at Liz. "What happened to Simon?" "He's dead." answered Liz in a toneless voice. She smiled softly at her sister with her sparkling hazel eyes. Dr. Westphalen and Captain Bridger walked into the room. They frowned at everyone, except Liz. "This is Elizabeth Sarah Hitchcock, Katherine's little sister." said Kristin. She walked over to the bed and took the clip board. "Hello Liz." Nathan said in a cheerful tone. "I'm Captain Nathan Bridger of the seaQuest." He outstretched his hand. Liz stared at him for a moment and then shook Nathan's hand. "Hi." She looked at her sister, then at Nathan. Nathan smiled and patted Liz's leg. "How are you feeling today?" "I'm fine." Liz looked at her arm and frowned. "So, where will I stay on the seaQuest?" Nathan turned to Ben and frowned. "So, I guess your ex-brother in-law told you about the good news." Liz nodded with a smile. She brushed a piece of hair out of her face. "Well, you'll be staying by Lucas Wolenczak. He's about your age." Nathan sighed. "We better let you get some rest." Ben, Manilow, and Jonathan left the room. Katherine sat on the bed, still. "Don't you need to report for duty, Katherine?" asked Nathan. Liz piped up, "Sir, I was wondering if Katie could stay for awhile." Kristin looked at Nathan and nodded. She turned to Liz. "Of course she can, Liz." Nathan began to protest, but Kristin dragged him out of the room before he said anything. Katie looked at Liz. "So, what's up?" asked Katie. Liz shrugged. "Nothing." She smiled and sighed. "I missed you, Katie." Katherine nodded and hugged her sister. She seemed to melt in her arms because she was so weak. Katherine worried about that, but at least it was a good reason. "Liz, I wondering....do you miss Mama and Dad?" Liz nodded. She rested her head on Katherine's shoulder. "Do you?" "All the time." Katherine patted the mass of tangled brown hair and laughed. "You are such a hassle." Liz pulled away from her sister and punched her in the arm. "You aren't the best behaved child either, Katherine." ************* Darwin swam up to the window and began to cry out to Lucas. He waited for a moment and then began to hit the window with his tail. Lucas sat up in bed and looked at Darwin with a frown. "Don't you have any respect for the sick and dying, Darwin?" asked Lucas. He turned the light on and winced. Darwin squealed. He swam away and came back. Lucas knew Darwin wanted him to follow. Lucas got out of bed and scrabbled around for a pair of jeans and a sweater. He found a pair of worn in blue jeans and a gray sweater. He put the sweater over his white shirt and ran out to the hallway. Lucas found Darwin in the Science Lab. The translator was on the counter. Lucas grabbed it and walked over to the dolphin. He turned the translator on. "Hi Darwin." said Lucas as he put the translator down. He stuck his hand into the water and drew back. It was freezing cold. "New person on ship." said Darwin. He swam around a little. Lucas looked up and crossed his arms. "Who?" "A girl." said Darwin. He swam to Lucas. "I need a name, Darwin." Lucas petted the dolphin. He sat on the pool's edge. "Elizabeth Hitchcock." said Darwin. Lucas looked at Darwin. "How do you know?" Lucas stood up and climbed onto the pool's edge. He walked on it like a person in the circus. "Darwin saw her coming in." said Darwin. "So this is the talking dolphin Ben was talking about." said a voice from behind Lucas. Lucas slipped and fell onto the floor. He hit his head and regained his senses within a moment. Lucas looked up and saw a girl with a smile on her face looking down at him. She gave Lucas a hand and pulled him to his feet. "Sorry if I scared you." said the girl. She was dressed in a white terrycloth robe and her brown hair hung below her shoulders. "That's okay." Lucas replied. He rubbed the throbbing pain out of his head and looked at the girl. She was rather good looking. "I'm Lucas Wolenczak....you are?" "Liz Hitchcock." She smiled at Lucas. "I'm so sorry I scared you, Lucas." Lucas smiled and shook his head. "Nah, that was fine. I've been through worst. Hitting my head wasn't a big deal." He looked at Darwin. "Is this Darwin?" asked Liz. She brushed her hair behind her ear and walked up to Darwin. She held out her hand and Darwin swam under it. Liz petted him. "He's tame." Lucas sat on the edge of the pool. "He likes people." He looked at Liz. She was actually extremely pretty. Much better looking than the other girls he had met. "Aren't you suppose to be in the infirmary?" Liz shrugged. "I wanted to look around. You should be in bed, huh?" Lucas blushed. She was right. "I guess so, but Darwin woke me up." "Lucas is my friend." said Darwin. He squealed happily. Lucas smiled at Darwin and patted his head. "So, how did you get out of the infirmary so quickly?" Liz sat next to Lucas. "Ventilation." She touched the water with her hand. "How can Darwin stand this water? It's freezing!" Lucas shrugged. He looked at the doorway and saw Dr. Westphalen standing with Nathan. "Well, I see you two met." Nathan walked over to Lucas and grabbed his sweater. He looked at Lucas' feet. "You're bare foot after what happened to you?" Lucas blushed crimson. He smirked and looked at Liz. "I'll see you later." Liz smiled as she followed Dr. Westphalen back to the infirmary. "You shouldn't be out in your condition, Lucas." said Nathan. He dragged Lucas down the hallway. "What condition is that, Nathan?" asked Lucas. He yawned and began to fall to the ground. "See what I mean, Lucas." Nathan took his young friend's arm and slipped it over his own shoulder. "No wonder your parents sent you here." "Shut up." Lucas retorted sleepily. He closed his eyes for a moment. "At least I know how to pick up chicks, Nathan." "That's not the point, kiddo." Nathan opened the door to Lucas' room. He helped Lucas to his bed. "Dr. Westphalen will come by later to check out your condition with the chloroform." "I heard a ping." babbled Lucas. He fell over and closed his eyes. "Ping, ping, ping." Nathan groaned and turned off the lights. "Goodnight Lucas." He shut the door and bumped into Hitchcock. "Captain, how's Lucas?" asked Hitchcock. She smiled and walked along side of Nathan. "He's babbling and picking up chicks." said Bridger. "You mean Liz?" asked Hitchcock. Bridger nodded and walked over to the Maglev. "How's everything on the bridge?" "Henderson found a signal from a incoming Iranian sub. They are planning to attack." said Hitchcock. Bridger moaned. "This is such a long day." He walked into the tran. ************* "Henderson, what's going on?" asked Ford. He looked at O'Neill. "O'Neill is telling 'Your Momma' jokes in Iranian. They still want to attack." answered Henderson. She showed the map. "That's the sub right there." "So, we have a problem with the Iranians." said Bridger. He stood behind Ford. O'Neill looked at Bridger. "They won't listen." "If they fire a missile, give them a taste of their own medicine." Bridger ordered. The people on the bridge nodded and continued to work. Bridger sighed and looked at Crocker. "How's the Iranians?" asked Crocker. He shoved his hands into his pockets. "They are planning to attack sooner or later." Ford looked at Bridger. "What is that suppose to mean?" "We better get ready." CHAPTER SIX Miguel heard the door creak open from his light sleep. He turned over and settled down. "Hey, Miguel, we need you on the bridge." It was Tony Piccolo. He stood in the doorway and crossed his arms. "I don't want to go." mumbled Miguel from his sleep. He turned over and remained asleep. Tony flipped on the light switch and walked into the room. Miguel covered his head with the blankets. "Go away." mumbled Miguel. He curled into a ball. Tony grabbed a pair of jeans, a white tee shirt, and a plaid over shirt. "Come on, Miguel. Get up and get to the bridge." Tony dropped the clothes on Miguel's bed. "I'm giving you five minutes." "That's not fair!" yelled Miguel from under the covers. Tony shrugged. "Just because your thingie affects the way you work on board the seaQuest doesn't mean you have to stay in your quarters forever." Miguel's head popped up and glared at Tony, who closed the door. He got into his clothes and put on a pair of boots. Tony looked inside the room. "Ready?" Miguel nodded. "By the way, Tony, it isn't a thingie, it's memory loss." "Whatever, Miguel. Come on, the captain needs you....now." Tony grabbed Miguel's sleeve and dragged him to the Maglev. "Why did he have to get me now?" asked Miguel. He looked at Tony. "The doctor wants me to rest, you know." Tony shrugged. "You know, this isn't his fault. Those damn Iranians are up to no good, again." "What a surprise, Piccolo." said Lt. Hitchcock. She and a young girl wearing a pair of bootcut blue jeans, a red shirt, a rainbow colored zip up sweater, and a pair of black boots walked up along side the two men. Tony looked at the girl and smiled at Miguel. Oh no! said Miguel in his head. Tony was going to try to make a pass at the girl. "So, Miguel, how are you feeling today?" asked Hitchcock. She smiled at Miguel. "Fine." Miguel looked at the girl and looked at Tony. They came to the Maglev and the doors slid open. The group sat down and the Maglev began to move. "I can't believe he wants me at th...." Miguel was thrown clear across the Maglev as the ship shook violently. Tony landed next to him and Hitchcock slide next to Tony. The girl held onto one of the poles with one of her arms. "What is going on, Katie?" screamed the girl during the shaking. She closed her eyes and hoped the shaking would stop soon. Another joint shook the seaQuest and Miguel flew across the Maglev. He hit his head against the glass of the fire extinguisher. Tony slide by the girl, who grabbed him. Katie grabbed a pole and held on to it. The shaking stopped and the doors of the Maglev flew open. Brody, Ford, Dagwood, and Captain Bridger ran inside. "What the hell was that?" asked Tony. He rubbed his elbow and groaned. "The Iranian's battlesub. They fired enough to blow a airplane to kingdom come." answered Brody. He looked at the girl. "Who's that?" Hitchcock walked over to the girl. "This is my little sister, Liz Hitchcock." Liz smiled and looked at Miguel. She ran over to him and turned him over to his back. "I need a first aid kit." Ford looked at Liz. "Why?" He walked over to Liz and saw Miguel. "What happened to him." "He was thrown across the Maglev a few times during the shaking." Liz brushed the glass away from Miguel's face. Brody handed Liz the first aid kit. "Here you go." "Thanks." Liz took out a flashlight and opened Miguel's left eye. Captain Bridger walked over to Liz. "What's your diagnosis?" Liz looked up at the captain. "He has a minor concussion and he did a job with his forehead. He'll need stitches and the bridge of his nose is bruised up." Captain Bridger looked at Hitchcock. He was impressed by Liz's intelligence. Bridger took out his PAL. "Dr. Westphalen, we need a Med team here, stat." He looked at everyone. "Hitchcock, Piccolo, I want you at Med Bay. Brody and Ford will escort the both of you." Ford help Hitchcock out of the Maglev and Brody followed them with Piccolo. Bridger looked at Dagwood. "Dagwood." Dagwood saluted Bridger. "Yes sir." "I want you to stay with Liz and Miguel." Bridger looked at Liz. "If she needs your help, you know what to do." Bridger smiled at Dagwood and left. Dagwood looked at Liz and walked up to her. "Um....Captain Bridger wanted me to help you if you needed it." Liz nodded. "Could you hand me the tweezers?" Dagwood handed her the tweezers and looked at Miguel. "Um....will Miguel be okay?" "Yup. He'll be back on his feet in no time." Liz looked at Dagwood. "I'm Liz Hitchcock." "I'm Dagwood." He made a humming sound. "Dr. Smith said Miguel was going to be fine when he came back on the seaQuest." Liz nodded. "When did he leave?" Dagwood shrugged. "Some aliens took the seaQuest and when we came back, Dr. Smith and Miguel were gone." Liz turned her head. "Where did they go?" Dagwood shrugged. "Um....Tony had a dream that Wendy was on an island and we went to the island." "Did you find her?" Liz took out some of the glass in Miguel's head wound. "Yes. No one could find Miguel." Dagwood thought for a moment. "Um....Dr. Smith and Ford found him later in Cuba." "Oh. Was he okay?" Liz took out a bandage and placed it on Miguel's forehead. "When they found him....um....he had no memory." Dagwood looked at Liz. Liz just stared back at Dagwood. Dr. Westphalen and the Med team ran into the Maglev. "What happened to Miguel?" asked Dr. Westphalen. She took his pulse. "He has a minor concussion....it could be a mild, his bruised the bridge of his nose, and he'll need stitches on his forehead." Liz answered. Dr. Westphalen looked at Liz with a bewildered expression. "If you are right about this, Liz, you'll be put on medical staff." The Med team put Miguel on a stretcher and ran him over to Med Bay. ************* "What the hell do they think they are doing?" yelled Bridger. O'Neill looked at the captain. "They are saying we have something they want." Bridger frowned. "Put the bastards up on screen, O' Neill." "Yes sir." O' Neill looked up to see a man with a black beard. "I'm Saddam Miriam, captain of the Iranian battlesub, Anthem." said the man. "I'm Captain Nathan Hale Bridger of the seaQuest and you are in UEO territory." answered Bridger. "We are not in UEO territory, captain." said Miriam. Bridger shook his head. "You are in UEO territory and I have the right to blow your sub to kingdom come." "Not if we do it first." replied Miriam. Liz ran onto the bridge. "Captain!" Bridger turned around and glared at Liz. He walked up to her. "Elizabeth, this is a restricted area for children. Go back to your quarters, please." Liz saw Miriam's face and grinned. "Well, I didn't know a tub of bladder can use a SEAPOC." "You!" yelled Miriam. He pointed at Liz. Bridger looked at Liz, then Miriam. He lead Liz over to Henderson's post. "You know this guy?" "Of course." Liz looked up at Miriam and crossed her arms. "He's the one who made the research probe crash into the trench." Henderson looked up at Liz. "Research probe? You were on a research probe? You not even a day over sixteen!" Bridger looked at Henderson. "That's not the point, Henderson. Put her up on full speed incase if they fire again." "Yes sir." Henderson answered. Bridger began to walk off. "Oh, Liz." said Bridger. "Yes captain?" asked Liz. "You know how to hack?" asked Bridger. Liz thought for a moment. "I know everything about hacking, sonar, sensors, and WSKRs." Bridger nodded and looked at Sensor Chief Stevens. "Stevens, let this young lady take your spot. Help her out." "Yes sir." Steven stood up. Liz went up to Stevens and sat down. She put on the head piece and began to talk to Stevens. "Bridger, where are you?" asked Miriam. "I'm right here." Bridger answered. "You have what I want and that is Hitchcock." Miriam glared at Bridger. "Which one?" asked Bridger. "Captain, he's fire off fifteen torpedoes. If they hit us, we might take a bath in seawater." Liz said from her post. "Fire intercepts." ordered Bridger. "Firing intercepts." "Damn!" yelled Liz. Bridger looked at her. "What's wrong?" "One of the torpedoes hit a WSKR." Liz complained. Miriam pounded his fist on the table. "Send more, dammit!" Liz looked at the screen. "We have one stray torpedo coming at us in five....four....three....two.....prepare for impact." The seaQuest shook and Sensor Chief Stevens was thrown down the stairs. Liz fell out of her chair and landed on her arm. She let out a scream. "That was some impact." said Liz yelled. She got back in her chair and saw more torpedoes. "Send intercepts and ten missiles." "What?" Bridger said as he stood up. "Just do it!" yelled Stevens. He glared at Bridger. "I can't believe I'm taking orders from a sixteen year old." mumbled Bridger. "Do what the little lady wants." A huge explosion made the seaQuest rock. Bridger looked at Liz. "Where's the battlesub?" He walked up to her post. "We blew it to kingdom come." said Liz. A silence fell on the bridge. Everyone looked at Liz. "I must be half way to China by now." Liz added. The bridge broke out in laughter. Bridger patted Liz on the back and smiled. "Nice work, kiddo." He whispered. CHAPTER SEVEN Kristin covered Miguel with a blanket. He was sedated because of the pain he was in. "So who is he?" asked Katie. She smiled at Kristin as she turned around. "Katie, you should be in bed!" Kristin lead Katie out of the room and turned off the lights. "I was worried about Miguel." replied Katie. "Miguel's fine. I sedated him because he was in pain from his injuries." Kristin looked around. "Did you know your sister gave his diagnosis?" Katie nodded. "I was there. What she right?" "You sister was completely right! It's amazing." Kristin said. "Do you know where she is?" Katie shook her head. "She might be on the bridge." "No. She's right here." said Nathan. He lead Liz to Kristin and Katie. "What happened?" Kristin ran up to Liz and looked at her arm. "Does it hurt?" "A little." Liz smiled at Nathan. "Nothing Tylenol couldn't handle." "What happened on the bridge?" asked Katie. "We blew the Iranians to China thanks to your sister." Nathan replied. "I need to give the President a little briefing about what happened." He walked out of Med Bay. Katie looked at Liz. "What did you do? Tell them some of Dad's corny jokes?" "No! We fired a missile and intercepts." answered Liz. Kristin unwrapped the bandages. "I'm going to have to X-ray this. Come on, this won't take long." Katie and Liz followed the doctor into one of the rooms. ************* Lucas walked into his room and saw Tony with an ice pack on his elbow. He looked like he was in pain. "What happened to you?" asked Lucas. He climbed on to the top bunk. "I was in the Maglev during shake, rattle, and roll." Tony looked at his elbow. "Seriously?" Lucas laid on his stomach and leaned over the bed. "Who was with you?" "Miguel, Hitchcock, and the most beautiful chick I have ever seen." Tony got a dreamy look in his eyes. "Are you sure you didn't hit your head, Tony?" asked Lucas. "She was so pretty." Tony said in a giddy voice. "She was smart, too." "You mean Liz Hitchcock?" Lucas asked. "Yeah." Tony looked at Lucas. "You know her?" "She's Katie's little sister and she's going to be my girlfriend." Lucas replied. "Your girlfriend?" Tony laughed. "Why would she date a geek instead of a fun guy like me?" "Because she's smart." Lucas answered. "I can see it now, Elizabeth Wolenczak." Tony laughed. "Dream on, Lucas. Her name with be Mrs. Tony Piccolo." "I don't think so, Tony." Lucas frowned as the door opened. It was Tim. "Hey guys, did you see that new girl. She's a looker!" Tim hoped onto the desk. "Her name is Elizabeth Piccolo." "No, Elizabeth Wolenczak, bonehead." "She smiled at me." Tony said. "Well, she talked to me." "Big deal, guys, I just had dinner with her and her sister." bragged Tim. Tony and Lucas looked at Tim. "You're kidding, right?" asked Lucas. "Why would she have dinner with you?" said Tony. Tim shrugged. "She likes me. We'll marry and she'll be Elizabeth O'Neill." "Now if I can stop it." mummered Lucas. "You want to bet or something?" Tony looked up at Lucas. "Sure. I say I'm going to get Liz first." said Tim. "No I will, Tim." Lucas hopped off the bed. "Really? You'll have some trouble, Luc." Tony glared at Lucas. "I'll bet both of you that Liz will date me first." Tony held out his hand. "Fine." Lucas shook it. "Sure." Tim shook Tony's hand. "Let the games.....begin."
