A second story from me today :) No, it's not Katie's response to Ben's letter. That hasn't been written yet, but thanks to everyone who commented and gave me tons of ideas for it :) This is a short story that I wrote over the summer about Brody, but have been stumped as to a title - until tonight :) And I wasn't about to send this thing out without a title - I already did that with a B&K story & I hate doing it... Anyway, not to forget the usual disclaimer (like I did for the letter :( ) As much as it pains me to say this, Brody doesn't belong to me. He belongs to SFC, Amblin & all TPTB that have anything to do with sQ. Anything else does belong to me and I hold the rights to it. I *do* want lots of comments on this one...my dad read over it & was rather confused - 'til the end. Once you read it, you'll see what I mean This story's dedicated to my wonderful friends from home, especially my best friend Amanda, who've cultivated my mind to the point it's at now Of course, they all refuse to read my sQ stories, but if it weren't for them, this story might not have happened ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "American Tradition" by Michelle Vincenti "This is a beautiful port. I should come here more often." Jim thought. For the first time in a while, he actually found himself able to relax on shore leave. Things got so tense on _seaQuest_ that he was often wound up just a little too tightly. As he walked around New York City, one would wonder why Jim would call it beautiful. Although time certainly had passed since the Sanitation Law of 2003, it was just as dirty as it ever had been. Garbage lined the streets; traffic was backed up for miles -- probably from one end of Manhattan to the other, which would be typical of the famed city. Jim found his way to Greenwich Village. As soon as he got there and saw one of the shops, he grinned. Everyone knew about Jim's reputation of having a girl in every port, but there was one side of Jim Brody that his crewmates never saw. As Jim looked in the window of one of the stores, he mentally calculated how much it would cost for all the little goodies he wanted to get. He figured that he had enough UEO credits, so he went into the store and bought his little "treasures". He went back to the parking garage where he'd left his transport and drove back to the hotel where he was staying. When he reached his room, he found her already waiting for him. "Hiya love," he said and bent over to kiss her. He opened the door to the fridge and found some chocolate syrup. Her eyes widened in excitement. She grinned, knowing what he had planned. Jim took out whatever he'd gotten in the store and laid them out on the table. "So, which do you like better?" She gestured to the one on the right and Jim smiled. That was usually his favorite, too. He picked up the chocolate syrup and looked at her questioningly. "So how much do you want?" She grinned. "Lots. Just let me get everything ready first. Things have to be just right before you use the chocolate syrup." He knew exactly what she was talking about. He had his own way of preparing and knew that she did, too. After all, if he didn't know her after 8 years, when would he? Jim had forgotten how good it was. After being on a submarine for so long, it's easy to forget how good the real thing is. After about fifteen minutes, they were finished. "You look tired. Do you want to take a nap?" he suggested. "Yeah," she said. "Okay, you rest. I'll clean up." Jim tucked her in and started cleaning up. He glanced into the bedroom and saw her sleeping peacefully. "She looks like an angel," he thought. He went over to the couch, sat down, and started watching some T.V. After an hour, she sleepily walked out of the bedroom. "Can I have some more?" Jim looked over at her and grinned. "Yeah, sure. With chocolate syrup?" "Yeah, of course." She grinned. "Okay." He got up and walked into the kitchen. He opened the freezer and turned to look at her. "Chocolate or vanilla?" "Both," she said, still smiling. "I love coming to visit when you're on shore leave, Uncle Jim. You _never_ scrounge on the chocolate syrup. Mommy always says that it's bad for me." Jim smiled at her and took out the ice cream. He sat down at the table. "Anything for my favorite niece." He picked up the chocolate syrup and grinned at her. "One Brody special sundae coming right up." End :) copyright 1997 by Michelle Vincenti ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For all of you that were starting to think that this belonged on the adult list - get your minds out of the gutter! Of course, my dad thought the same thing, but... Opinions? Comments? Seriously, I want to know what y'all think...this was probably one of the oddest stories I've ever written...and I'd like to know if it was one of the ones I shouldn't have bothered to post... :) (Yes, my friends would have thought it belonged on the adult list, especially with the innuendos...) ~Michelle <|:) (smiley with a Christmas hat/pasta strainer!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Michelle Vincenti - Questie, MSTie, X-Phile, Dweeb, Tedite mvincent@drew.edu / RedMenace2018@hotmail.com fanfic page: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Lair/4867 "We are all made up of our experiences, both good and bad.
